POET-DSM Advanced Biofuels, LLC - Cellulosic bio-ethanol
In January 2012 DSM announced a joint venture with US-based POET, LLC, one of the world’s largest bio-ethanol producers, to commercially demonstrate and license cellulosic bio-ethanol. This is derived from corn crop residue (biomass) by way of a biological process using enzymatic hydrolysis followed by fermentation.
Biosuccinic acid - Bringing biobased building blocks to the world with Biosuccinium®
At DSM we are the co-inventor and exclusive licensor of the biosuccinic acid, Biosuccinium®.
Biosuccinium is the first non-fossil feedstock derived chemical building block that allows customers in the chemical industry to choose a bio-based alternative with a lower eco-footprint for a broad range of applications, from packaging to footwear.
While current markets for succinic acid include pharmaceuticals, food, flavor, coatings, pigments and metal plating, we believe that the production of high-quality, biobased succinic acid like Biosuccinium will trigger new applications and open up new markets.
These include the production of biobased polyurethanes, polybutylene succinate (PBS), plasticizers, composite and coating resins, solvents, 1,4 butanediol and Tetrahydrofuran (THF) for usage in many end-user products like packaging, footwear, elastane clothing, shopping bags, mulch films, automotive interior and more.
